Learn what auto-renewal is, how it works, and the steps to turn it off for your McAfee® subscription.

1. What is McAfee® Auto-Renewal?

Auto-renewal is a subscription setting that automatically extends your McAfee® plan at the end of your current term so you continue to have protection without interruption.

2. How to Turn Off Auto-Renewal

You can change your renewal preference from your McAfee account:

  1. Sign in to your McAfee® account.
  2. Go to “My Subscriptions” or “Billing.”
  3. Find the Auto-Renewal option.
  4. Turn off Auto-Renewal and confirm the change.

3. How Auto-Renewal Works

When auto-renewal is on, your plan renews at the end of each term using the payment method saved on your account.

  • Turning it off does not end your protection straight away — it normally stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • The renewal price can be different from the price you paid the first time. Check your account for the current amount.
  • You can usually switch auto-renewal back on at any time before your plan expires.

4. Renewal Notifications

Subscription services commonly send a reminder email before a renewal charge. Use it as a prompt to review your plan.

Be careful: Scammers send fake “your subscription has renewed” emails. Don’t call numbers or click links in them — sign in to your account directly to check your real renewal status.

5. Things to Know

  • If you bought McAfee from a retailer, an app store or with a new computer, you may need to manage renewal with that seller.
  • Turning off auto-renewal is not a refund. If you were already charged, see our refund guide.
  • Keep the confirmation email, or take a screenshot of the change, for your records.
  • Check you are signed in with the same email address you used to buy the subscription.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

No. The software stays installed and your protection normally continues until the end of your current paid term.

In most cases, yes. You can usually re-enable it from the same subscription or billing page before your plan expires.

Turning off auto-renewal only stops future charges. Read our refund information guide and check the current refund policy on the official McAfee website.

Your subscription may have been bought through a third party, or under a different email address. Check your purchase receipt to see where it came from.
